(I make my own buttons. Can you tell? Smaller version and html code available below)
It’s back and bigger than ever:
Mega Memory Month 2011!
As we launch the new year, we’re also launching Mega Memory Month 2011.Mega Memory Month (MMM) began back in 2008, when I invited people to join me in a month-long memorization extravaganza. Over the years I’ve hosted MMM during the months of January, June and October; but I’ve concluded that the best time to undertake a mega memory project is in January, when resolve is high and few holidays distract us from our goals. So here we are: January 2011 is just days away. What would you like to hide in your heart?Take the next few days to pray, plan and prepare. Then launch your memory project on Saturday, January 1, 2011 (detailed instructions below).
I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing…If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be given you. This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples. (John 15:5, 7-8, emphasis mine)
Mega Memory Month Participants:
Here’s how to participate:
- Pick something you’d like to memorize. Something long. Something formidable. Something Mega. (Mega to you may not be mega to me–simply challenge yourself relative to what you’ve tackled in the past.) You could select a passage of Scripture, a poem, a classic hymn and/or a famous speech. It’s up to you.
- Announce it on your blog whenever you like.
- Return to this post to link up, talking about how you’re going to take the challenge and participate in the Mega Memory Month carnival. Facebook users can interact at the MMM 2011 FB headquarters.
- Mega Memory Month Progress Reports. On Mondays (because it offers the best alliteration), I’ll write a Mega Memory Month Progress Report. Chime in with your own progress report that day (or any time during the week) in the comments or link to your own MMM Progress Report post. That way we can visit and encourage each other.
- Share memory techniques you’re using, so we can borrow ideas that work. Click here for a list of memorization tips and techniques I’ve collected and here for a great resource someone else has compiled.
- Final Celebration! By the end of the month, present a creative culmination of your work (ideas: a video of you–and your family, if they’re participating–reciting it by heart; write it out by hand and take a photo; type it up on the blog).

Don’t want to post a brain coral button on your blog? Here’s an alternative:
And…a little one with the “splat” motif.

Sounds like something I’d like to try! Will get back to you, Ann.
Blessings,
Janis
Hope you’ll join me–it helps to know others are struggling with me! 🙂
Ann, thank you so much for your comment on my blog!! I was super excited to see a comment from you, because as I mentioned on my blog, you are one of my favorite authors. 🙂 In fact, I’m working on a post now for my blog with my “Favorites of 2010” and your book, The Contemplative Mom, is going to be my favorite non-fiction book of the year!! 🙂 Anyway, I’m still praying on what scripture to memorize, but I think I have it narrowed down to Philippians…either parts of chapter 2 or 4.
Wow, I’m super excited to hear this from you, Candace! How humbling to know that God has used The Contemplative Mom in your life. And what a treat to “meet” you!
Yikes! This makes me nervous. The project, not the button. My memory maker just isn’t what it used to be.
I hear you, Deidra. In fact, that’s partly why I started Mega Memory Month. My “mega” wasn’t all that impressive, but it was “mega” for me. And every word I was memorizing was progress.
Ann, I can’t get the button for the FOF.
Angela, I think I fixed it. I updated the post with html codes at the bottom if you scroll down. Hope they work!
Thinking . . .
Me, too. Thinking. Praying. Wondering what passage to undertake.
yay! I was hoping we were doing this again 🙂 I have NO idea what I’m going to work on…but I’m in.
and if you want a little inspiration…check out my blog this week…my little 3-year-old was blessed with his mama’s memory and we worked on the Christmas story this month. I just posted a video 🙂
Yippee! So glad your mind will be in the mix! Thanks for joining MMM again, Amy–I look forward to your updates and reports!
Hi Ann! I just linked up and I’m so excited to be joining you again this year! Last year I attempted 2 Peter 1:1-11 but didn’t quite make it. This year I’ll be brushing up on that passage and finishing it, plus I’m hoping to memorize Psalm 91. Thanks for hosting this! It was so helpful having the encouragement and accountability last year.
Happy New Year! (I can’t think of a better way to begin the year than memorizing God’s precious Word!)
I’m with you, Meagan. I’ve fallen short of my goals, maybe every time except the first Mega Memory Month back in 2008. But…every word I memorize is more than I would have tucked away otherwise! 🙂
I’m going to return to some previous projects, as well. May the Lord give you all you need to accomplish this task–and I’m so glad to share the undertaking with you!
Oh Ann! I was trying to put the new button in, but it is not working for me tonight. I put in the original brain corral for the time being and will try again in the clear light of day. I am with you though… I may not be my usual ‘mega’ self, but I am with you. 🙂
Hi Ann,
I am having trouble with the mega memory button on my blog. How do I post it?
I’m new to this blogging thing 🙂
