Edible Flower!

After last Friday’s Food on Friday’s post about roses and other edible flowers, I couldn’t believe my eyes when the next day, at a banquet, we were presented with these plates. The others seated at our table thought I was nuts for snapping several pictures of my plate. They thought I was even nuttier for eating the flower.

Years ago, I remember reading about a salad at Disneyland that included rose petals. I’ve never served any rose petals, but that idea did capture my imagination.

Unfortunatley, no pictures or review here, but a recipe at least:

In case you’d like to expand your edible flower repertoire even farther, personally I like nasturtiums. They’re nice and peppery, but you’ll probably have to wait till spring to try them . . . Day lilies make good salad additions as well.

Yes, that’s what happened to my daughter, Carrie, the idea of roses in food “captured her imagination.” I’m off to check that recipe.

And Queenie, thanks so much for your recommendation–nasturtiums on a salad sound nice. I like peppery on my salads. I can’t believe day lilies are edible! I have so many of them–I planted many, many day lilies in my yard! Guess I’ve got some interesting surprises for my dinner guests this summer!

Hi Ann. I totally understand about snapping pictures of your plate of food…LOL! I have heard of edible flowers but I don’t think I’ve ever eaten one. Thanks for you comment on my blog. I may have accidentally “rejected” your comment and it’s such a shame because it was such a nice one too. I do appreciate you taking the time to visit and comment.

    Have a great day.

Because I also have a food blog, I’m constantly taking photos of my food at restaurants ( much to my family’s dismay).

    I understand. 😉

(And I would like to say I’m embarrassed that your first visit to my blog was the one featuring my son’s peemanship!- Sorry- more “spiritual” content soon to come.)

Thanks for the chuckle. We have files of food pictures as well, just because we like pretty food.

    I don’t think you’re nuts!
