Time Are Hard

[Updated: Whoops. Left a little too quickly this morning. Of course the title of this post should be “Times” are hard. Otherwise it suggests an enigmatic statement about the Theory of Relativity mixed with a “Kids ‘R’ Us” phrasing.]Yesterday, The Belgian Wonder and I turned into the Goodwill parking lot.”Look!” I cried out. “A limo! At Goodwill! Quick, let’s get a picture. If this isn’t blog-worthy, I don’t know what is!”timesarehard1See it?On the left, trunk open, ready to stash bags of secondhand jeans, old lamps and used crock pots, was parked a long, white limousine. The Belgian Wonder obliged by cruising slowly through the lot, helping snap photos. This shot shows it better.timesarehard2I guess I shouldn’t be surprised. Someone told me that more consumers are turning to thrift stores and that shopping Goodwill is the new chic…

Well that’s a first!!! Good blog reporting 🙂

I’d like to know the story behind the story.

I’ve heard so much about Goodwill stores – we don’t have them here. We have Value Village and a few independent thrift stores. Surprisingly they can be a little expensive. But if you keep looking, you can find a bargain or two. I like to just wander and that’s usually when I find a treasure or two.

At least we can say we discovered it first, right? 🙂 And I agree – Goodwill seems expensive these days. I have much better luck at independent thrift stores.

Islandsparrow & Keri: You’re kind not to mention the problem in my title. I made a silly disclaimer since you commented.

Fun to see your notes–we looked to see if we could figure out who the limo-shopper might be, but never did see anyone who fit the bill. And then we got swept up in our own treasure hunt to notice when it drove away. It remains, therefore, a mystery.

    Ann,

I rather like your title. It suggests that “Time” is, perhaps, plural. In otherwords, “Time” has a dual meaning in this post. Sure the economic time in which we find our selves is difficult. However, the pictures suggest that the time of season and day–the snowy, wind-driven, dusky bookend–is hard.

All that said, I sat wondering about how good your title was this morning. Then you went and told me it was a mishap! This just goes to show that your genius reaches even to the unintentional.

Actually really like this post and I have been mulling over the picture on a semi-regular basis today. I’m not sure what to think. But keep me thinking.

Oh… and I should have said “ourselves.” Arg… and there was no unintentional genius in my mis-type.

And this is near you?? That makes it even more funny to me since I know what town you live in!

I love when life happens, and a blogger says, “if that’s not blog-worthy…”

    Great shot.

Blog worthy and inspiring… little did the limo riders know. Good thing you had your camera handy!

    Hi Ann!

Time ARE hard, you are right!! 🙂

If the rich start shopping at Goodwill, we are sunk.

Maybe they were dropping stuff off, and didn’t know, or weren’t inclined, to use the back door!

Daddy and I were just commenting on an impressive house, then recalled that when we were house-hunting in the 1970s, we were in many a home that looked impressive, and were in the first few “public” rooms, but the farther back you went, the more downscale it became. One very fancy place had orange crates for storage in the kids’ rooms……

Appearances, as you know, can be deceiving. Where did I just read that? Oh, I wrote it….

    Love, Mom

    Ann,

I smiled at your post title, but your explanation? Wonderfully delicious!

Of course, the curious cat in me would’ve had me prowling the store trying to figure out who the limo belonged to. I would’ve been as subtle as a hand grenade trying to unobtrusively capture a spy photo, lol.

Just spent some time reading your “about page” and corporate writing link. If I knew all that “way back when”, I don’t remember now. BUT, it does reinforce why I added you to my reader forever ago :).

I just don’t read enough these days…too busy cat juggling ;).

These are great photos! I went to Goodwill the other day and we had to park out by the street because it was packed! We parked by very nice cars and you would think it was the day after Christmas inside! I found a candlestick holder…that’s it!
