Rita Rose, a friend of my mom, recently came out with her first book entitled World’s Tallest Woman: The Giantess of Shelbyville High. Rita gave the book designer a stack of photos to choose from for the cover. Out of that stack, the designer selected this one (from the book’s Amazon listing):
Sandy’s shirt reads, “I’m With Shorty.”I’m “Shorty.”Before you have some fun in the comments, let me say by way of disclaimer:
- I learned early to shop garage sales.
- I’ve consistently valued warmth and comfort over beauty.
- I’ve always preferred a simple hairstyle.
- I don’t remember exactly what I was thinking at that moment, but the experience of meeting Sandy was positive. I do remember that.
- I’ve only appeared on the book cover; I have not yet read the book.
How fun!!! I think you look adorable.
I agree. I think Ann’s appearance is remarkably consistent–and beautiful!
This is very cool, Ann. You are adorable. And now, of course, you must read the book. And fill us in on what you thought 🙂
That’s you? Wow! What a fun thing to end up on the cover like that. You were such a cutie, too! -Julia 🙂
You were (and still are) cute. At least you didn’t blame your mom for dressing you. My daughter always teases me and says things like, “Why did you cut my hair so short? Why did you make me dress like that?” She made choices that she can’t remember. lol. I will have to get that book from the library.
That’s pretty darn cool Ann. You got most of us beat… no book cover appearances here for me. And I think your look great. The pictures I could pull out of MY early fashion sense? Well, we won’t even go there. You were leagues ahead of me.
Should have added this sooner–I HAVE read the book, and it would be an excellent gift for any teen who feels awkward about fitting into high school.
It is not a straight biography, but the basic facts are true, and Sandy herself approved it shortly before she died. The slight fictionalization makes it read more smoothly, and certainly gets the point across.
I love it that you’re on my book cover! Hope you’ll have time to read it in your busy life. Your girls are at the perfect age for this story and its messages …… hope you can steer them toward my “tall story” !!!
Rita
Maybe it’s the vintage-look from the B&W photo, but I’d wear that jacket! It’s totally hip!
