Make-Do Mondays with Ann
There was a time, years ago, when I was made fun of for doing this:
I’ve been switching over to glass storage, but sometimes plastic bags are the ideal container for a particular situation. And so to reuse my plastic storage bags, I continue to wash, rinse, and hang them on my kitchen utensils to dry.

I do this too!
Glass storage is my choice, too, although I do reuse bread sacks and cereal liners (they’re great for half a head of lettuce). I still use zip-locs occasionally and re-use them. My goal is to eliminate as much plastic from our kitchen as is reasonable.
Remember when we thought it was so quaint when your mother-in-law in Belgium washed her plastic bags for reuse????
Lynn Hopper: She probably started me on the whole thing! In Belgium, she just sticks them on the wall above her sink. Next week, I think I’ll show off my fancy bag dryer. It involved chopsticks and a common Goodwill-acquired container (some people might already have one on hand).
When I started doing the same thing, some friends who know her made fun of her and of me, accusing me of being ridiculously frugal. Those same friends are adamant about washing out bags today!!
Carla: I reuse bread bags, too, but I need to start saving those cereal liners! Great idea!
My in-laws were visiting this weekend and thought it was the funniest thing that I wash and re-use plastic bags. One of them, an inveterate shopper, said that in a catalog she had once seen a bag rack for just such a situation. . .that’s our consumer society for you: take an attempt to save resources and twist it into something else to buy. . .
Anyway, it’s encouraging to know that I’m not the only one who uses her crock of kitchen utensils for hanging just-washed ziplocks!
Those cereal liners are THE VERY BEST for rolling out pie crust !
i got the impression that ‘way back when, when C. was washing the bags and saving them, it was because they were not so readily available in Belgium. They probably are, now, but frugality is a good habit to keep!
