20-to-1

Mary Pipher writes, “De Frain talks about the 20-to-1 ratio. Strong families have roughly twenty positive comments for every negative one” (p. 228, The Shelter of Each Other).

Hmm….

How many positive comments today?

How many negative?

Pleasant words are a honeycomb,

sweet to the soul and healing to the bones.

(Proverbs 16:24)

    3. What a good thing to keep in mind! It’s amazing how one negative comment can undo all the good that a positive comment may have made.

But to genuinely appreciate each person — for what he wants to be appreciated for! That’s my quest.
