Monday FunDay–Blog Party (week 7)

Ultimate Blog Party 2008

I write on a wide range of topics–everything from Nutella to nature; from Writing in the Midst of Motherhood, to ideas for Quiet Times, to 10 Simple Ways to Class Up One’s Act (a notch).

But Mondays over here are set apart for fun.

Several weeks ago I launched Monday FunDay, a carnival dedicated to swapping simple, amusing–maybe even silly–everyday ways you enjoy good, clean fun. Because it’s Monday and there’s a blogging party going on, I couldn’t resist uniting the two ideas, so welcome to my Blog Party introductory post and…

Monday FunDay

To participate in Monday FunDay, just post a story, idea, or explanation at your blog of how you and/or your family has livened up Mondays (or any day).

Then link up via Mr. Linky below (if you don’t have a blog, simply explain your idea in the comments) and we’ll collect all the ideas in one place. Again, please remember: ideas must be squeaky-clean, family-friendly fun.

My idea for today’s Monday FunDay, obviously, is to participate in the totally fun Ultimate Blog Party.

To participate, I’m supposed to introduce myself. To that end, you might enjoy seeing how I spent my birthday recently. It all started with a chocolate croissant. And let me tell you, when a day starts with a chocolate croissant still warm and gooey from the oven, you know it’s going to be good.

To get to know me means you need to know that my faith in Jesus Christ is at the root of all that I am. From that foundation flows my family life–I’m married to The Belgian Wonder and mother to four children. The Lord also ultimately defines my writing, even if my work isn’t overtly Christian. You can read more about my corporate and creative writing work by clicking on the buttons above or the links provided.

And my “About” button includes a long bio. Really long. You’ll know more about me than you ever really wanted or needed to know.

You may also note my book addiction.

Here’s one room. Several shelves are double-stacked.

This is another room, showing an attempt at color-coordinating some of my hardbound books. Some book lovers have been shocked at the thought of categorizing by color. But…books are my friends, and I know them by their covers. So even if C.S. Lewis has to hang out next to Anne Lamott instead of G.K. Chesterton, I think they’ll all get along fine.

And there are, by the way, many, many more books in the house–at least one bookcase in every room but the bathrooms, and several in the basement.

One of my friends gave me a card with a nutty-looking girl on the front and a quote from Louisa May Alcott:

“She is too fond of books and it has addled her brain.”

This very well may be the case. You’ll have to dig into my blog to decide for yourself. So welcome to this stopover of the Ultimate Blog Party and Monday FunDay.

I do want to reassure you that my contribution to Monday FunDay is usually a little more fun than merely talking about myself. What I’m really trying to encourage is participation in the Ultimate Blog Party, where blogger-creativity really shines. Drop in on other party-participants and have some fun mingling!

Check on Mister Linky below to see what others are doing today…

And check back every Monday for more creative, fun ideas from both me and other clever folks!

Instructions for the WordPress Mr. Linky (which is different than the ones you’ll see on WFMW and other Typepad or Blogspot blogs):

1. Write your post. Type up your Monday FunDay edition and post it at your blog.

2. Come back to this post and click on Mr. Linky. A window will pop up.

3. Type in your name (or blog name) and if you like, you can include a short “teaser” for your idea in parenthesis. Something like this:

Ann K (join the Blog Party)

3. Paste in your url. Below the spot for your name, there’s another for the url of your own post. Copy the url for your own Monday FunDay and paste it in (including the http:// part of it).

4. Press Enter. That’s it! It should be saved by Mr. Linky.

To see what others have posted, click on Mr. Linky and pay a visit to the fun bloggers who have joined in!

It’s fun to have fun, but you have to know how!

    1. Hello Ann, it’s nice to meet you. I don’t have a book addiction, but my SIL sure does, you remind me of her in that way.

      Happy Partying!

    3. Ann,

Usually I participated in the Fun Monday carnival, but every week I see your Monday Funday and I rack my brain to come up with something to post. IS MY FAMILY THAT BORING AND UNIMAGINATIVE???

Your carnival is a great idea, though, and ONE day I’ll come up with something novel to post. And geezaree, you ARE a bookophile!! I thought we had lots and then I saw your shelves.

Your still one of my favorite reads…guess I’m just more of a lurker these days ;) .

      Happy Blog Partyin’!!!!

      :)

    4. Ivan Girl says:

hey, welcome to the party and hope you’re having a blast. Do call me Ivan Girl and I’m from Manila, Philippines.

I love your site and most especially, your book collection! Pleased to meet you! Will definitely visit you again.

Do stop by my blog and join me for the party… :)

      Have Fun!

    5. annkroeker says:

scrapping servant: Thanks for dropping by and for the fine greeting. If you ever need to borrow a book, just let me know!

a cup of joy: A cup of joy? Chocolate? Australia? I’m definitely going to stop by today!

Robin: You are so encouraging! *But* you just brought something to my attention…I didn’t know there was a similar carnival previously established so similar to mine…the Fun Monday. Maybe I subconsciously saw it somewhere, or maybe it’s kind of an obvious thing people crave (fun on Mondays), but I didn’t mean to duplicate something that’s already out there. I may have to rethink mine….

It’s always a pleasure seeing you, and I’ve got to make the rounds sometime in the next few days to see what others have done. Party on!

Ivan Girl: Thanks for stopping by, and I shall certainly drop in and find out what life is like in the Philippines, as seen and experienced through your eyes.

    6. Love the pictures of the books! My husband and I are trying to figure out where else we can fit some bookshelves…since the current ones are overflowing!

    7. Alana says:

So basically you’re telling me if I want to be half the writer you are I need to read all of those books! I better get started. Have a great week of blog partying!

    8. Regan says:

Is it possible to be too fond of books?

My piano teacher once compared my appetite for reading to her appetite for chocolate-chip cookies. It was a good analogy. I just can’t stop until the last chapter!

    9. Felicity says:

Hello… it is nice to meet you… hope you are having a fun party… it is fun ‘meeting’ all these new people… party hearty, take care and don’t be a stranger… an aussie in Florida

    10. Storm says:

Still hopping from blog to blog… my goal is to post at each blog at least once. Nice to meet you. Happy blogging!
